We are a boy-led troop of leaders committed to service in our community. We learn wilderness skills, time management, and leadership - all while creating unforgettable memories. Many of our scouts are also leaders in the classroom, the athletic field, and their places of worship.

Troop 212 was founded by Pop Clarke in 1961, and it has evolved in many ways over its 60 year history. We found a home with our chartering organization, Moraga Valley Presbyterian Church, and later at Camp Timberwolf, where our wilderness camp is now held every summer. Our High Adventure program was established in 1979 to give Scouts the opportunity to undertake a wide range of outdoor challenges, whether it be scuba diving in the Pacific Ocean, pack rafting in Montana, or treks across Alaskan glaciers. Over the past 60 years, more than 450 scouts have earned the rank of Eagle Scout through our troop.

However, one thing has remained constant across the decades: Troop 212’s tradition of excellence, and its commitment to the values of advancement, spirit, and attendance. 

Troop 212 Purposes, Goals, and Values

The purpose and goals of the Troop are consistent with that of the National Council: The Boy Scouts of America is the nation’s foremost youth program of character development and values-based leadership training.

  • Offering the Scouts, ages 11 to 18, venues for responsible fun and adventure;

  • Instilling in the Scouts lifetime values and developing in them ethical character;

  • Developing the Scout’s leadership potential through leadership training and the operation of youth-run programs; 

  • Training the Scouts in good citizenship and community service; and

  • Developing in the Scout a clear understanding of their duty to God.

Advancement: Rank and leadership advancement in the Scouting program and troop respectively, is the natural result of consistent attendance and a positive spirit. While it is not a requirement, the troop provides a structured program and system to support Scouts who wish to pursue the rank of Eagle Scout.

Spirit: Participation in the troop builds camaraderie and esprit de corps. The BSA and Troop are committed to inclusiveness. It is a “no-cut sport.” Troop members are committed to fostering an environment of belonging. So show up and show up with the right attitude!

Attendance: Just like school and sports, Scouting is a participatory program. In order to get the most out of school, you attend class. In order to get better at sports, you attend practice. To get the most out of Scouting, Scouts should be committed to attending meetings and outings.
